Pelfrey Signs
The Mets signed their first round pick from last year, Mike Pelfrey, yesterday to a four year deal worth more than any unproven player really deserves to get in my book (but this is how the market works these days). He’s already headed to Port St. Lucie for this week’s minicamp.

Castro Agrees to 1-Year Deal
According to the AP the Mets and backup catcher Ramon Castro have agreed to a 1-year contract worth $800,000. This takes Castro off of the arbitration list. Still eligible for arbitration are VÃctor Zambrano and Chris Woodward. (Nice error on the linked page switching the positions of the arbitration eligible duo.)

Strawberry Visits Minicamp
Darryl Strawberry visited Mets minicamp yesterday. Most of his comments to the media dealt with how he is at peace with himself and his past and how he’s preaching to the younger players about staying on the straight and narrow. It’s nice to see Straw with a straightened attitude. I just hope he stays clean himself.

It’s Official: Edwards is Chief Chief

Edwards One Step Closer to KC
It’s been widely reported that the Jets negotiations with Kansas City for granting the Chiefs permission to speak with head coach Herman Edwards about their vacant head coaching position concluded with the Jets receiving only a fourth round draft pick as compensation should their coach change sidelines. Regardless of anything I have said about Edwards in the past I still believe this is too low a price.
