Perez Shows He’s Not Team Player
The Oliver Perez decision was made late yesterday. But it was not the decision that the front office probably would have liked. Manager Jerry Manuel has said that the team did not ask Perez to accept a minor league assignment. If this is the case I have to believe that they didn’t ask because they […]
Perez Out Of Rotation But Where’s He Going?
After another poor outing Saturday the Mets have said that Oliver Perez will be removed from the starting rotation. Exactly where he will be going remains up in the air. There are two obvious options: move him to the bullpen or send him to the minors to work things out. Moving Perez to the bullpen […]
Time To Do Something With Perez?
The Mets designated Claudio Vargas for assignment after last night disgraceful 11-0 loss to the lowly Seattle Mariners. Carlos Muniz was recalled to take his spot on the roster. I don’t think this move had much to do with his disappointing performance in last night’s game as Vargas had been pitching pretty well before that. […]
Back on Trach?
The Mets got a much needed win last night behind some good pitching and timely hitting. Steve Trachsel only mistake was Barry Bonds 710th career home run in the second inning. Beyond that Trachsel was solid.
Anna Benson Gets Kris Traded… Again… Maybe
The Mets traded starting pitcher Kris Benson to the Orioles for Jorge Julio and John Maine yesterday. Benson’s wife, Anna, had some things to say about it, as usual. Here’s a sampling:
Trachsel to the Pen?
I said last week that I didn’t think the Mets 6 man rotation would last too long. It seems like it’s going to end sooner than even I thought it would. Several reports have Steve Trachsel moving to the bullpen since the team has scheduled VÃctor Zambrano to start Friday in Florida. Very odd timing […]
Trachsel Joins Six Man Rotation
Steve Trachsel was activated from the DL yesterday ending what seemed to be an endless rehab assignment. It was also announced that he will be part of a six man rotation getting his first start Friday night between Pedro Martinez and Kris Benson. The six man rotation is not a bad idea this time of […]
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Click here for a recap of last night’s game. I’ve said many times in this space that one of the keys to the Mets becoming a better team is to not only be able to play the better teams well but also to be able to consitantly beat the worse teams. Last night they proved […]
Notes
Sorry for not having posted the last several days. Things at work have gotten a bit busy with a big project nearing an all too agressive deadline preventing me from posting more regularly than I have in the last week and a half or so. In the second half the Mets have managed to get […]
The Wright Call?
Click here for a recap of last night’s game. How far out of the baseline can a player go without being called out? Second base umpire Jeff Nelson showed us last night. With one out in the eighth inning and the bases loaded Doug Mientkiewicz hit the ball to Braves first baseman Julio Franco who […]
