Church Gets $2.8 Million, Avoids Arbitration

According to Jon Heyman the Mets and Ryan Church have agreed to a $2.8 million deal that will avoid an arbitration hearing. There are four Mets still set to go to arbitration. They are starting pitcher John Maine, reliever Pedro Feliciano and outfielders Jeremy Reed & Angel Pagan.

Sanchez Gets 128% Raise, Avoids Arbiration

According to reports the Mets have reached an agreement with Duaner Sanchez on a one year contract for $1,687,500 and avoids arbitration. The deal gives Sanchez a $950,000 raise. Sanchez faded down the stretch last year when it mattered most but in the crazy business of major league baseball he still merited a 128% increase. […]

Mets Brooms Sweep Brewers

The Mets took out the brooms yesterday and swept away the Brewers to complete a thoroughly satisfying road trip. Now they come home to play a crucial weekend set with the Phillies while trying to protect a 2 game lead in the division. The bats came out early as the Mets scored 6 runs in […]

Wagner Still Hurting

The word is in on Billy Wagner and it’s… non committal. The Mets released a statement saying that Wagner continues to have swelling and pain in the elbow and he’ll need more rest. There was no mention of any specific damage or a timetable for Wagner’s return. Although there was no mention of the possibility […]

What’s Going On With Church’s Head?

Ryan Church left yesterday’s game with dizziness. The Mets have said that the dizziness was due to a migraine and that Church has a history of migraines. I’m curious how they draw the distinction between dizziness from a migraine and dizziness from post concussion syndrome. I’m not a medical person so I don’t have the […]

Who Else Should Go When Randolph Is Fired

“It’s not the heat. It’s the humility.” – Yogi Berra Those words must be going through Willie Randolph’s head these days. His team is 30-33, 7 1/2 games out of first place and fading fast. The team has been struggling all year but gave a glimmer of hope with a 7-3 run after Memorial Day. […]

Notes From A Day Off

The Mets have some tough decisions to make today. It looks like Moises Alou is ready to begin his season. The scare with his foot (where they thought he may have a fracture) has passed. But how will the team make room for Alou? Common thinking is that if Brian Schneider is ready to return […]

Tonight’s Lineup

Tonight’s lineup was posted a little while ago. As noted earlier Brian Schneider is back from an injury. Perhaps more notable is that Carlos Delgado is batting in the sixth slot in the order. Delgado has been horrific lately. I’m curious if this is in response to his .208 average with 1 home run or […]

Beltran Powers Mets Past Nats

Carlos Beltran broke out of his shell for his first home run last night en route to the Mets 5-2 win over the Nationals. Beltran’s 3 run shot followed solo homers by Ryan Church and Jose Reyes. Reyes has been on fire the last two games since returning from a minor hamstring injury. He gives […]

Correction: Reyes To Play

Contrary to what I wrote in my last post Jose Reyes will be in the lineup tonight. Furthermore in contrast to what Willie Randolph said yesterday he has dropped Luis Castillo to the 8th slot in the order. Ryan Church will bat second. Moving Castillo down makes sense until he is healthy but I’d rather […]
