Metsblog on Sabathia
Over on Metsblog Matthew Cerrone puts forth the idea that C.C. Sabathia may be a more realistic acquisition for the Mets than everyone’s off season dream, Johan Santana.
Alou’s Option Will Be Picked Up
The rumor mill is strong about the Mets picking up the option of left fielder Moises Alou. The Mets have until November 15 to exercise the option. If the option is exercised Alou would make $7.5 million for the 2008 season.
Mets Get Castillo!
The Mets have been searching to improve their lineup by adding a more natural second place hitter as well as addressing their needs at second base. Yesterday they accomplished both. After negotiations for other second basemen (Mark Loretta, Mark Grudzielanek, Tadahito Iguchi, etc.) the Mets had a chance to acquire the Twins Luis Castillo. They […]
What’s on Second?
There’s been a lot of rumors lately about who the Mets may trade for as the non waiver trade deadline approaches. The most speculation is around second base where Jose Valentin is on the DL with a fractured right tibia. I’d argue that the Mets are better off without Valentin. Ruben Gotay has been playing […]
Queens is Burning
What a crazy day yesterday was. Rick Down was fired as hitting coach. Rickey Henderson was added to the coaching staff but to an unannounced position. He may be hitting coach but so may Howard Johnson who filled the duty last night as Henderson couldn’t get to New York from Oakland in time for the […]
Who Will Make Room For Milledge?
Lastings Milledge will join the Mets tonight and be the regular left fielder until Moises Alou returns from the disabled list. That much is given. What isn’t given is who Milledge will replace on the roster. It was previously reported in many venues that either David Newhan or Sandy Alomar Jr. would be sent down […]
Urdaneta: First Down, Now Out
This week has gone from bad to worse for Lino Urdaneta. On Monday the Mets optioned the right handed reliever to Triple A New Orleans. Today rumor has it that Urdaneta will be suspended for 50 games for a steroids violation. with penalties like this out there and the known long term affects steroids has […]
Banny Banishded for Reliever
There are reports that the Mets are close to a trade that would send starting pitcher Brian Bannister to the Kansas City Royals for reliever Ambiorix Burgos. Burgos is looked at as a kind of Oliver Perez of the bullpen: high upside but yet to consistently perform to his potential.
Matsui a Goner?
I read this morning that when Xavier Nady comes off the DL (he’s eligible next Tuesday) the Mets may release Kazuo Matsui unless they can trade him first. The move makes sense as the team has Jose Valentin starting at second base right now with Chris Woodward ready to back him up and Anderson Hernandez […]
Mets Acquire Relievers, Second Baseman
The Mets needed bullpen help and that’s exactly what they got today when they acquired right handed relievers Duaner Sanchez & Steve Schmoll from the Dodgers in exhange for Jae Seo & Tim Hamulack. Sanchez will be the primary right handed setup man for new closer Billy Wagner. The Mets also acquired a new second […]
