Minaya Tabs Randolph As Manager For 2008
Mets GM Omar Minaya announced yesterday that Willie Randolph will be back managing the Mets in 2008. Although the collapse of the team still stings it’s nice to see Minaya make a quick move here rather than let the issue languish into a controversy. Many fans are still calling for Randolph’s head but that’s because […]
Rollins Was Wrong: Mets Were Team To Beat, They Just Got Beat
Jimmy Rollins said before the season began that his Phillies were the team to beat. All Mets fandom scoffed at the comment. Today many people will give Rollins his due since his Phillies have prevailed to win the NL East. However despite the Mets dramatic fall (finishing a game out of first place after having […]
Mets Get Castillo!
The Mets have been searching to improve their lineup by adding a more natural second place hitter as well as addressing their needs at second base. Yesterday they accomplished both. After negotiations for other second basemen (Mark Loretta, Mark Grudzielanek, Tadahito Iguchi, etc.) the Mets had a chance to acquire the Twins Luis Castillo. They […]
Queens is Burning
What a crazy day yesterday was. Rick Down was fired as hitting coach. Rickey Henderson was added to the coaching staff but to an unannounced position. He may be hitting coach but so may Howard Johnson who filled the duty last night as Henderson couldn’t get to New York from Oakland in time for the […]
El Duque Possibly Hurt
In what has been a very quiet start to camp the silence is now being broken. At issue is a possible injury to number two starter Orlando Hernandez who has flown to New York to have his neck examined. Apparently he’s been feeling some discomfort in the neck, which he did last year but didn’t […]
Zito Goes To Frisco
The Mets lost the Barry Zito sweepstakes as the prized lefty free agent signed with the San Francisco Giants yesterday staying in the bay area for 7 years at $125 million. I’m not surprised the Mets didn’t get Zito. Despite all the talk about how general manager Omar Minaya goes after the players he wants […]
Reyes Won’t Play This Winter
Mets shortstop Jose Reyes will not be playing in winter leagues this off season. This according to GM Omar Minaya. “Reyes is an important part of our team. That’s why the Mets organization decided that he will not play. We want to keep him healthy for the next season.” Wise move.
Banny Banishded for Reliever
There are reports that the Mets are close to a trade that would send starting pitcher Brian Bannister to the Kansas City Royals for reliever Ambiorix Burgos. Burgos is looked at as a kind of Oliver Perez of the bullpen: high upside but yet to consistently perform to his potential.
Glavine Signs
The Mets can breathe a tremendous sigh of relief now that Tom Glavine has signed a one year deal with a vesting option for a second year. (The option kicks in if Glavine pitches 160 innings and the value increases the more innings he pitches.) Glavine signed the deal after the Atlanta Braves made his […]
Goodbye Cliff, Hello Moises
The Mets affectively cut Cliff Floyd loose with yesterday’s signing of Moises Alou. According to general manager Omar Minaya Alou will be the regular left fielder next season making Floyd, affectionately called ‘glass’ by fans, expendable.
