Milledge and Pérez Shine

Lastings Milledge kept up his flair for the big play yesterday when he doubled in two runs in the second inning yesterday. The runs gave the Mets a 3-0 lead in an eventual 5-2 win. The pitching hero was Oliver Perez. Coming off the disabled list Perez allowed 6 hits and two earned runs while […]

Milledge Dramatics

Since being promoted from the minors on Thursday Lastings Milledge has been in the middle of some big plays while not really being all that hot. He’s only batting .250 in three games since his recall but he has managed to score a winning run with a crazy slide to the plate (Thursday), hit a […]

Queens is Burning

What a crazy day yesterday was. Rick Down was fired as hitting coach. Rickey Henderson was added to the coaching staff but to an unannounced position. He may be hitting coach but so may Howard Johnson who filled the duty last night as Henderson couldn’t get to New York from Oakland in time for the […]

Franco Out, Milledge In

In a move that wasn’t quite a surprise but was unexpected at this point in time the Mets designated Julio Franco for assignment this afternoon to make room for Lastings Milledge. It is unknown whether Franco will accept an assignment to AAA, opt for free agency or retire.

Who Will Make Room For Milledge?

Lastings Milledge will join the Mets tonight and be the regular left fielder until Moises Alou returns from the disabled list. That much is given. What isn’t given is who Milledge will replace on the roster. It was previously reported in many venues that either David Newhan or Sandy Alomar Jr. would be sent down […]

Milledge’s Hand and El Duque’s Neck

There was a brief scare as a result of a play in yesterday’s exhibition opener. Lastings Milledge got hit on the hand by a pitched ball. Luckily x-rays on the hand today showed no broken bones. Also, as a follow up to last week’s story about Orlando Hernandez going back to New York for an […]

Milledge Matures

In today’s New York Post Kevin Kernan writes about the progress Lastings Milledge is making regarding the character issues that plagued him as a rookie last season. Milledge certainly seems to be talking the talk about maturing and adjusting. But it was nice to see John Delcos of the Journal News cite in his LoHud […]

Burgos Impresses

Most of the local Mets beat writers who have blogs have commented on Ambiorix Burgos first session against live batters today. Apparently the guy throws some real heat. Lastings Milledge was heard saying “ow!” as he ran to first base after hitting a ground ball to second base. I’m not really surprised that Burgos throws […]

Goodbye Cliff, Hello Moises

The Mets affectively cut Cliff Floyd loose with yesterday’s signing of Moises Alou. According to general manager Omar Minaya Alou will be the regular left fielder next season making Floyd, affectionately called ‘glass’ by fans, expendable.

Mostly Good News For Mets Yesterday

It was a big day for the Mets yesterday. First they learned Tom Glavine will not need surgery. Then they pulled off a comeback win. Then they finally acquired Shawn Green.
