Franco Out, Milledge In

In a move that wasn’t quite a surprise but was unexpected at this point in time the Mets designated Julio Franco for assignment this afternoon to make room for Lastings Milledge. It is unknown whether Franco will accept an assignment to AAA, opt for free agency or retire.



Who Will Make Room For Milledge?

Lastings Milledge will join the Mets tonight and be the regular left fielder until Moises Alou returns from the disabled list. That much is given. On Friday I mentioned a report by Ken Rosenthal at Foxsports.com about the possibility that the Mets would trade Kazuo Matsui to the Colorado Rockies for Eli Marrero. On Staurday morning I opened up the newspaper to see that Ken’s report was spot on.

Víctor Zambrano had his best start of the young season yesterday. Not that the bar was set so high but his 6 inning, 5 hit and 1 run performance last night would have been a good start for anyone.
