Perez Signing Announced
In a press conference this afternoon the Mets officially announced the signing of Oliver Perez to a three year, $36 million contract. Now Mets fans can focus on fixating on Manny Ramirez, a signing I don’t think will happen and is not necessary for the Mets to be a winning team.
Heyman: Mets, Perez Agree On Terms
Jon Heyman is reporting that the Mets and Oliver Perez have agreed on a three-year, $36 million contract. The Mets have been targeting a starter and it’s unknown if they will continue to pursue one of the remaining free agents such as Ben Sheets. But with this signing the rotation is shaping up. Johan Santana, […]
Latest Signings
According to reports the Mets have agreed with John Maine on a contract worth $2.6 million to avoid arbitration. The Mets have also signed four players to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. They are outfielder Bobby Kielty, righthanders Tony Armas Jr. and Matt DeSalvo, and lefthander Valerio de los Santos.
Sullivan, Mackowiak Signed
The Mets signed some less heralded players last week to help fill out the roster. The two I haven’t reported on were Cory Sullivan and Rob Mackowiak. Neither of these players are going to be daily contributors but both could help off the bench. Sullivan will be a backup outfielder on the major league squad. […]
Mets Sign Garcia
The Mets signed pitcher Freddy Garcia to a minor league deal yesterday and invited him to spring training. Garcia’s name has come up several times over the last few years with regard to the Mets but an acquisition was never made for various reasons. This is a typical Omar Minaya signing. Minaya likes to stock […]
Mets Bring Back Argenis Reyes
The Mets signed infielder Argenis Reyes to a minor league contract yesterday. Reyes had played for the Mets last season but was non-tendered last month and became a free agent. Reyes will serve as backup in case recently signed Alex Cora gets injured. He didn’t hit very well on the major league level last year […]
Hello Alex, Goodbye Damion
The Mets signed infielder Alex Cora to a 1 year deal yesterday. Could this spell the end for Damion Easley? Easley is a free agent and though he played well for the Mets he’s really just a spare part. Why would the Mets sign another spare part if they didn’t intend to get rid of […]
Report: Lowe Signs With Braves
According to reports by Paul Newberry of the AP (link) and David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution (link) the Braves have come to an agreement with free agent pitcher Derek Lowe. The deal is estimated to be worth $60 million over 4 years. This puts the screws to the Mets regarding Oliver Perez whose […]
Mets Sign Redding (And Other Rotation Thoughts)
The Mets signed RHP Tim Redding on Friday. This could be a bigger signing than it appears. Redding went 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA for Washington last year. To reach double digits in wins for a team like the Nationals is quite an accomplishment. But more important is that he pitched 182 innings. Having an […]
Mets Won’t Bid Against Selves For Lowe
I’ve been seeing on my RSS feed that the Mets will not increase their offer to free agent pitcher Derek Lowe because they don’t want to bid against themselves. Lowe turned down the Mets offer of $12 million per year for 3 years. He’s looking for $16 million per year. If there are no other […]
