Roster Fine Tuning

The Mets completed the final fine tuning of the roster yesterday to cut down to 25 men for today’s opening game of the 2008 regular season. Orlando Hernandez, who went back to his trademark high leg kick in Saturday’s preseason finale, was put on the 15-day DL so he can work on his arm strength. […]

Register Waived?

Adam Rubin is reporting in his Surfing the Mets blog for the New York Daily News that the Mets have waived Steven Register. This came as a surprise to me as I thought he would make the team. It is believed that Register will be claimed by another team but if he clears waivers the […]

Mets Notes

Fernando Martinez was re-assigned to minor league camp yesterday along with Tony Armas Jr., who actually just arrived in camp the other day because of visa problems. John Maine struck out 7 in 5 innings yesterday. It’s becoming more apparent that Duaner Sanchez is running out of time to prove himself and may, indeed, start […]

Notes From An Off Day

The diagnosis on Jason Vargas‘s hip is a torn labrum. He’ll have surgery on Monday. Ruddy Lugo was optioned to AAA. Carlos Delgado is day to day after receiving stitches in his right forearm. Delgado was struck by the barrel of a broken bat during Sunday’s game. There is growing concern about Duaner Sanchez‘s rehab […]

Many Open Questions

With spring training starting this week it’s time to to ask some questions that the Mets will be facing this season. Here are some I came up with. Feel free to leave your own in the comments. Top of the rotation – This is what Mets fans have been dreaming of all off season. Johan […]

Arbitration Update

On Friday the Mets came to terms with Aaron Heilman on a one-year contract worth $1.2 million avoiding arbitration. That makes two arbitration eligible player signed (Duaner Sanchez is the other), five more to go. The team has exchanged numbers with the other five players (Endy Chavez, Ryan Church, Pedro Feliciano, Oliver Perez, Jorge Sosa). […]

Duaner Signed

Yesterday the Mets signed Duaner Sanchez to a 1 year contract worth $850,000. This is a potentially big signing if Sanchez can rebound from injuries that have kept him on the shelf the last year and a half. The Mets also signed Juan Padilla to a minor league deal.

Johnny, We Hardly Knew Ye

As expected the Mets non tendered Johnny Estrada yesterday. I’m not so sure that was the right move. But this officially makes the move of Guillermo Mota complete. The Mets essentially moved Mota and his salary to Milwaukee for nothing. Other Mets who were non tendered are Juan Padilla and Ben Johnson. The Mets did […]

Non-Tender Day

Today could be a very bug day in baseball. It’s non-tender deadline day. Today is the last day a team may offer a contract to their arbitration eligible players or allow them to become free agents. The Mets have several players in this category including Oliver Perez, Aaron Heilman, Pedro Feliciano, Duaner Sanchez and the […]

Mets Get Estrada for Mota

The Mets have rid themselves of Guillermo Mota and may have helped their catching situation at the same time. Mota was acquired at the trade deadline during the 2006 when Duaner Sanchez was hurt in a taxi accident in Miami and had a pretty good run for the remainder of the season. During the off […]
