Camp Notes
Camp hasn’t been very eventful in my opinion. That’s why I haven’t written much this spring. But there are a few notes that are worth mentioning now that we’re getting closer to the season.

TV Heads
The Mets new tv station, SportsNet New York, kicks off this afternoon (in most of our area anyway). Apparently the network is taking their ‘TV head’ ad campaign a step further. I nearly bumped into two people with TV heads on 7th Avenue this morning. The guys were nearly blind because they couldn’t see out from behind the SNY logo on the TV screens. I don’t know if there’s a bigger promotion going on but be on the lookout for TV heads on the streets of the city.

Spring Training Notes
Thinsg are mostly quiet around Mets camp. There’s mostly just the usual spring training fair going on. Exhibition games. Players getting into shape. The continuing story of Pedro Martinez‘s preperation for this season with his bad toe and new shoes. There’s not really very much to talk about beyond the following 2 points:
- Tom Glavine was told by pitching coach Rick Peterson (who i used to love but now I’m indifferent about) that he should prepare for the possibility of starting on opening day if Pedro isn’t ready.
- Cliff Floyd is awaiting results of tests taken on his kidneys after an ‘abnormality’ was found in his urine. The test were mostly precautionary since Floyd’s father had a kidney transplant after his failed. But this begs the question: how do you find an abnormality in someone’s urine? Did Willie Randolph poke his head over the urinal divider and say “Hey, Cliff, your urine is abnormal”?

R.I.P. Kirby Puckett
Kirby Puckett died last night after suffering a stroke on Sunday morning. Many other websites have done a far better job than I could at describing the life and death of the first ballot hall of famer so I won’t even try to write my own piece here. I just couldn’t let such a sad moment go by without acknowledging this sad event.

Why play the WBC now?
I was looking at some of the box scores from the first couple of days of exhibition games and observed how most pitchers were only pitching 1 or 2 inning. This got me thinking about the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and how pitchers are being asked to compete at a time of year when they are only able to pitch a couple of innings.
