Wright on Daily Show
David Wright was a guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night and said all the right things. About the prospect of the Mets signing Alex Rodriguez Wright didn’t say anything earth shattering. He basically said that if the team wanted to talk with him about the subject he would be willing to listen. To see the whole interview click here.

Glavine Files for Free Agency
As expected Tom Glavine filed for free agency yesterday. There is a lot of speculation about where Glavine will pitch next year. Mets general manager Omar Minaya has said he expects to know what Glavine is thinking later in November but I think that it’s unlikely that he will be back with the Mets.

Alou’s Option Picked Up, Easley Signed
The Mets officially began assembling the 2008 team yesterday when they exercised the option on Moises Alou‘s contract and re-signed Damion Easley.
Though injuries kept Alou to only 87 games this past season he was one of few bright spots for the Mets in September when he hit for a .402 average. Overall Alou hit .341 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs. The option year pays him $7.5 million. Alou stated his motivation as follows:
What happened this year to us — I really wanted to have another shot, another chance at winning a world championship… I really haven’t gotten over (it) yet.
General manager Omar Minaya explained the move as follows:
To be able to have this for one year at the dollars that we’re talking about I don’t want to use a no-brainer, but we felt it was a wise decision.
After missing all those games in 2007 and 64 games in 2006 while with the San Francisco Giants Alou says that he has already started getting in shape for next year.
I’m going to do everything that I can do to stay healthy. I’m going to work as hard as I’ve ever worked to make sure that I can play 140 games or something like that.
Alou mentioned drinking proper fluids and eating bananas as part of his diet.
Easley, who missed the last 40 games of the season with an ankle injury, played in 76 games last season and hit .280 with 10 home runs and 26 RBIs. His new contract is a 1-year deal worth $950,000. Minaya called Easley “one of the better bench players in the game”.

Torre Not Dodgers Manager Yet
Apparently the story about Joe Torre being hired to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers is a bit premature. Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti told ESPN‘s Jayson Stark today that no agreement has been met.
We haven’t hired anybody. We’re talking to some people, that’s all I’m going to tell you. We’ll talk about where we go from here at a later date.
More on the story at ESPN.com.

Cameron Suspended
Former Mets centerfielder Mike Cameron has been suspended for 25 games at the start of next season. Cameron tested positive for a banned stimulant for a second time resulting in the suspension under Major League rules. Cameron, of course, denied he purposely took anything illegal.
After all of the analysis and testing, I can only conclude that a nutritional supplement I was taking was tainted. Unfortunately, the actual supplement is gone, and therefore cannot be tested. Without the actual supplement in hand, the rules are clear, and I must accept the suspension.
Sounds a lot like Rafael Palmeiro to me.

Harper on What Mets Should Do
John Harper writes in today’s New York Daily News that the Mets need to do something bold this off season to wash the taste of collapse out of their mouths. Harper suggest signing Alex Rodriguez and trading Jose Reyes for Johan Santana.

Where Will ARod Land? And Will It Affect Wright?
Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports on the top 10 destinations for Alex Rodriguez. The Mets rank number 6 on the list and Passan doesn’t seem to be too confident that the Mets will sign the future home run king.
But Adam Rubin reports in today’s New York Daily News that the front office has told David Wright to stay mum on the subject of ARod. This may signal that the Mets will attempt to make a serious play for ARod. Or they may just be trying to avoid their stud third baseman from putting his foot in his mouth on the subject. Either way Wright is expected to meet with team officials in the next few days to discuss the issue. The discussion will likely include talk about a possible position change should the Mets get ARod.

Mets To Look At Posada, Torrealba
Mark Hale reports in today’s New York Post that the Mets are targeting Yankees free agent Jorge Posada to be their catcher for next season. Mets brass has not closed the door on Paul Lo Duca but are clearly looking for other options and since Posada is a free agent it makes sense to talk with him. I have also read a few reports that the Mets will look to talk with Colorado Rockies free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba. These rumors bolster Ken Rosenthal‘s opinion expressed on SNY‘s Daily News Live yesterday that Lo Duca is as good as gone.
