Gotay Waived

In addition to waiving Steven Register the Mets also waived Ruben Gotay today. I like Gotay and hope he clears waivers. He’s not very good defensively but can give a spark offensively. And considering the shape the Mets are in at second base going into the season (Luis Castillo still not 100% from knee surgery, Jose Valentin‘s career on the line due to a neck injury, etc.) he could come in handy down the road. Based on some of the things I’ve read on other blogs and news sites I’d say it’s about a 50-50 chance that he gets claimed. I’m hoping that his recent ankle injury scares people off.
