On this day in 1969 Jerry Koosman pitched the Mets to a 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles to win the teams first World Series in 5 games.
Also today, in 2000 Mike Hampton led the Mets to a 7-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals that clinched the NLCS and an ill fated Subway World Series with the Yankees.

They won it on Thursday, October 16, 1969.
Wednesday, the 15th was the Seaver-pitched game that included Ron Swoboda’s game-saving grab of Brooks Robinson’s line drive, and the infamous JC Martin bunt play.
