In yet another sign of the coming apocalypse the New York Post started running a series of game recaps from the New York Yankees ‘historic’ 1977 season. Every day they’ll be running a short recap and box score of the game the Yankees played that day in 1977 together with the standings as they were on that day.
It’s incredible what attention the Yankees garner even when losing. They’re 12 games out of first place and the media continues to reach to give them good press as if the world would come to an end if they couldn’t communicate good things about the team. They’re 8 1/2 out of the wild card too but that didn’t stop the Post from printing wild card standings either.
Message to Yankee fans and media: The season is only half over. 12 games is hard to come back from but still doable at this point in the season. 8 1/2 games is not out of reach either. Instead of crying like you’re waiting for the seventh sign you should be rooting for your team, showing them support and get optimistic. Remember what your Hall of Fame catcher said (while managing the Mets): “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”
