Report: Lowe Signs With Braves
According to reports by Paul Newberry of the AP (link) and David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution (link) the Braves have come to an agreement with free agent pitcher Derek Lowe. The deal is estimated to be worth $60 million over 4 years.
This puts the screws to the Mets regarding Oliver Perez whose asking price probably took a bump upward as one more pitcher is off the free agent market. There have been rumors that the Mets have been interested in several pitchers but it seems pretty natural to me that the inconsistent lefty would be their main target at this point especially since Lowe is off the table. The Mets have offered Perez $30 million over 3 years. He’s probably not worth much more than that but there may be a team out there who estimate his value higher due to the fact that he’s a lefty and only 27 years old. Expect him to sign with the Mets (or someone else) in the next week or so.
