Mets Waste Santana Start
It was a sad day for the Mets offense yesterday. The closest they came to scoring through much of the game was when Johan Santana reached third base after hitting a double. They would end up scoring one run in the ninth inning of the 3-1 loss but Santana’s two bagger would be the only extra base hit the Mets would hit in the game.
What a waste.
Santana gives the Mets a great chance of winning every fifth game but they can’t get complacent when he’s on the mound. A loss with Santana on the mound is a wasted opportunity. Many people say you can’t put too much weight in early season games but the last time I checked each of the 162 games in the regular season count the same. A win in the early going can help in the endgame. So even though it was only the fifth game of the season and Santana’s second start it is one more game in the loss column at the end of the year where every game figures equally into the win percentage that determines who wins the division and who doesn’t.
