Santana Starts Season Wright
Johan Santana‘s first start as a Met lived up to all the hype as the Mets scored a 7-2 win over the Florida Marlins on opening day. The stud offseason pickup who will make more money this season than the whole Marlins team pitched 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 8.
The offense exploded for 6 runs in the fourth inning. The rally included a 2 run double by David Wright. In all the 7 runs represented the highest run scoring total of any Mets team on opening day. But don’t get too excited. This was against the Florida Marlins not the Boston Red Sox.
Though it was a great start for Santana keep in mind that, barring injury, he will have over 30 more. You can bet that not all of those 30 plus starts will be as easy. Just as Willie Randolph: “It’s very comforting when you give the ball to a guy like that. Hopefully, we’re going to get 30-something more starts like that.”
