Mets Sign Armas To Minor League Deal
The Mets made a move to provide some depth at starting pitching after depleting their upper farm system of top prospects in the Johan Santana trade by signing Tony Armas Jr. to a minor league contract yesterday. After starting his career as a rising star in the Red Sox organization Armas career has fizzled out after stay in Montreal/Washington and Pittsburgh. He’s not the top of the line starter people thought he would be when he was coming up for Boston but considering he’s being brought in to help the AAA rotation and as insurance for the back of the Mets rotation the risk here is minimal.
