Mets Interest in Santana, Others
Mark Hale writes in today’s New York Post that the Mets will not trade for Johan Santana as a rental and will not include Jose Reyes, David Wright or Carlos Beltran in a trade for the Twins coveted left hander. Citing a source “with knowledge of the clubs thinking” Hale writes that the Mets would want a 72-hour window for negotiating a long term deal with Santana (72 hours is considered standard for this sort of thing).
Hale also says that the Mets are showing interest in Octavio Dotel and Shawn Chacon. Dotel would be a good addition to the bullpen. I’m not so sure what the attraction to Chacon is.
