Roster Moves
A few maneuvers occurred yesterday.
- Marlon Anderson‘s re-signing became official. Anderson got a two year contract worth $2.2 million. This is viewed as a key move to building a good bench for 2008.
- Jose Valentin‘s option was declined. The second baseman is now a free agent. This is no surprise. I thought he played ahead of himself in 2006 and am skeptical of how well he will play post injury. Besides there are better second base options out there should the push to sign Luis Castillo fails.
- Brian Lawrence‘s option was bought out for $200,000. He is now a free agent. No great loss.
- The team has outrighted Dave Williams and David Newhan to AAA New Orleans. Williams declined the assignment and is now a free agent. It is expected that Newhan will do the same. Also no great loss here.
