Heilman Throws One Away

Yesterday the Mets announced that the starting rotation for the Milwaukee series this weekend will be Jeremi Gonzalez, Jose Lima and Pedro Martinez. One has to wonder if that affected Aaron Heilman‘s performance last night.

Weekend Notes

It was definitley an interesting weekend for the Mets. The Víctor Zambrano incident on Friday, John Maine‘s visit to the DL and a renegade umpire in the weekend finally against the Braves. Renegade umpire?

Zambran Oh No!

In the second inning of yesterday’s game Víctor Zambrano was visited on the mound by manager Willie Randolph. Randolph asked the hurler how he was feeling. Zambrano replied that he was fine. Randolph left the mound and let Zambrano continue pitching. The next two pitches would be Zambrano’s last of the year.

Victor-y Is Ours

Víctor Zambrano had his best start of the young season yesterday. Not that the bar was set so high but his 6 inning, 5 hit and 1 run performance last night would have been a good start for anyone.

Let’s Get It On

The time for talk is over. Today the speculation ends.

Anna Benson Gets Kris Traded… Again… Maybe

The Mets traded starting pitcher Kris Benson to the Orioles for Jorge Julio and John Maine yesterday. Benson’s wife, Anna, had some things to say about it, as usual. Here’s a sampling:

Mets Put an End To Arbitration Again

Víctor Zambrano and Chris Woodward have both agreed to contracts bringing the total number of Mets eligible for arbitration down to zero. That’s a good way to go into spring training. Zambrano’s contract calls for him to make $3 million guaranteed. There are incentives involved but I noticed that an incentive to win the CY […]

Castro Agrees to 1-Year Deal

According to the AP the Mets and backup catcher Ramon Castro have agreed to a 1-year contract worth $800,000. This takes Castro off of the arbitration list. Still eligible for arbitration are Víctor Zambrano and Chris Woodward. (Nice error on the linked page switching the positions of the arbitration eligible duo.)

Trachsel to the Pen?

I said last week that I didn’t think the Mets 6 man rotation would last too long. It seems like it’s going to end sooner than even I thought it would. Several reports have Steve Trachsel moving to the bullpen since the team has scheduled Víctor Zambrano to start Friday in Florida. Very odd timing […]

A Nice Night for a Game

Click here for a recap of last night’s game. Last night I got to make a rare trip to Shea Stadium. I don’t go very often for myriad reasons. In fact I only go a few times a year. So when I go I like be treated to a good game. That’s what I got […]
