DiPoto Named Interim GM of DBacks

Congratulations to former Mets reliever Jerry DiPoto on being named interim general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Orioles Fire Trembley, Promote Samuel

When I saw the news that the Orioles fired manager Dave Trembley my reaction was to laugh. The Orioles have bigger problems than the manager so making this kind of change right now has limited importance. (Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com has written a column about what the Orioles need to get back on track.) The […]

Poor Armando Galarraga

Poor Armando Galarraga. He pitched a game that was among the best ever the other day. But it wasn’t quite perfect. That was determined when umpire Jim Joyce blew a call at first base that would have been the 27th out. A lot has been said about Joyce’s blown call the other day. People are […]

Neyer on ARod

Though this blog post by Rob Neyer (from his Sweet Spot blog) is about the Yankees I always find something wonderful in Neyer’s work. In this case it’s mainly in the title of the post (“Sometimes six home runs are just a cigar”).

I Would Gladly Tase You Monday

For the second game in a row a fan ran onto the field at Citizen Bank Park in Philadelphia. But unlike Monday night the fan who ran onto the field Tuesday night was not tased. For those who missed the news yesterday, a 17 year old fan ran out onto the field during the Phillies […]

Gregg Zaun = Mackey Sasser

After last night’s rain out I was watching highlights of other games and saw a flashback of something I haven’t seen since the late 80s/early 90s. In the game between the Brewers and Pirates Milwaukee catcher Gregg Zaun appeared to do his best Mackey Sasser impression by mis-throwing when he tried to return the ball […]

McGwire’s Admission Changes Nothing

Mark McGwire’s admission to steroid use yesterday did nothing but confirm the feelings I’ve had toward him for several years now. I always liked McGwire as a player despite the widely held beliefs that he was juicing. I was rooting for him in 1998 when he broke Roger Maris’ single season home run record. My […]

My Take on Baseball’s PED Issue

I was talking with a friend of mine over the weekend and the subject of David Ortiz and PEDs came up. This friend is a Yankee fan and he tried to spin the story as a situation that taints the Red Sox World Series win that broke the curse of the bambino. (Though I say […]

Andy Sonnanstine At The Bat

An interesting thing happened at yesterdays Tampa Bay Rays game against the Cleveland Indians. A lineup card error resulted in both Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria being listed as third basemen. When the team took the field in the top of the first inning Zobrist was at third. Longoria was meant to be the DH. […]

Manny Suspended for PEDs

According to the L.A. Times Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for use of performance enhancing drugs. Scott Boras, Ramirez’s agent, told ESPN’s Peter Gammons that Ramirez was taking a prescribed drug for a medical condition as opposed to steroids. There is no word as to what substance Ramirez was taking. […]
