Pop Goes Pedro?

That pop you heard last night may be more or less than what it sounded like. It came from the hamstring of Pedro Martinez and it will take an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. Martinez felt the pop in the fourth inning with the Mets down 4-3 after he allowed home runs by Dan Uggla and Luis Gonzalez in the first and second innings respectively. He was removed from the game immediately and will fly have an MRI in New York today.

The Mets were able to tie the game due in no small part to Angel Pagan (RBI single in fourth, RBI sac fly in the fifth).

The Mets eventually lost the game in the 10th inning. But that doesn’t hurt as much as Pedro’s injury might. Many commentators are already saying that this could be the Mets undoing this season. I think it’s too early to say that. Even a devastating injury cannot kill the season after just 2 games. But I still wait with baited breath to hear the results of this today’s MRI.
