Claudio Vargas Available

The Brewers have released RHP Claudio Vargas. The Mets seem to still be in need of a fifth starter. Do we have a match? Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog is not convinced. What do you think? Leave your comments. (Click the comments link above and to the right of this post or, if you are viewing […]

Reed Johnson Signs With Cubs

Count Reed Johnson out as an option for the Mets in left field. The outfielder, cut from Toronto on Sunday, has signed with the Cubs for 1 year. It’s looking more and more like Angel Pagan will be in left field on opening day.

Gotay Waived

In addition to waiving Steven Register the Mets also waived Ruben Gotay today. I like Gotay and hope he clears waivers. He’s not very good defensively but can give a spark offensively. And considering the shape the Mets are in at second base going into the season (Luis Castillo still not 100% from knee surgery, […]

Register Waived?

Adam Rubin is reporting in his Surfing the Mets blog for the New York Daily News that the Mets have waived Steven Register. This came as a surprise to me as I thought he would make the team. It is believed that Register will be claimed by another team but if he clears waivers the […]

ARod Regrets 24+1

In today’s New York Daily News John harper writes about Alex Rodriguez and his decision to go to Texas for $252 million in 2000 instead of coming to play for the Mets. Though ARod has regrets about not playing for the Mets I can say that I do not. I agreed with the 24+1 idea […]

Lidge DLed

The Phillies placed Brad Lidge on the DL on Monday because he is not fully recovered from offseason knee surgery. Lidge was a key acquisition for the Phils who were able to then move Brett Myers back into the starting rotation. He’s eligible to return on April 5 so he will probably be active for […]

Maine Man

John Maine pitched a gem today. In 6 innings he allowed 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 7. He even picked off a runner at first. I’m feeling very good about the 4th slot in the rotation right now. If only the 5th slot would sort itself out.

Starting Rotation

Willie Randolph announced the starting pitching rotation after yesterday’s game. And it is: Johan Santana Pedro Martinez Oliver Perez John Maine ???? No surprises there except that Willie chose not to anoint a 5th starter despite having previously said he wants to name one by the start of the season. Both Orlando Hernandez and Mike […]

Mets Notes

Fernando Martinez was re-assigned to minor league camp yesterday along with Tony Armas Jr., who actually just arrived in camp the other day because of visa problems. John Maine struck out 7 in 5 innings yesterday. It’s becoming more apparent that Duaner Sanchez is running out of time to prove himself and may, indeed, start […]
