On Wednesday the Phillies signed Kris Benson to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. This will certainly add something to the Mets Phillies rivalry. I’m actually a little upset about this. Benson would have been a good fit to sign a minor league contract with the Mets and challenge for the […]
The Mets have signed outfielder Brady Clark to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Pedro Martinez spoke with the media yesterday at Port St. Lucie and was his usual self. Here are some of the interesting things he mentions. On the steroids era: “I dominated that era and I did it clean. I can stand by my numbers and I can be proud of them.” On steroids testing: “I […]

The Mets made a move to provide some depth at starting pitching after depleting their upper farm system of top prospects in the Johan Santana trade by signing Tony Armas Jr. to a minor league contract yesterday. After starting his career as a rising star in the Red Sox organization Armas career has fizzled out […]

Yesterday’s news about Pedro Martinez and cockfighting got under the collar of PETA who issued a letter calling for Pedro to apologize. Pedro and the Mets released separate statements but neither issued an apology. Both said that cockfighting is legal and part of the culture in the Dominican Republic. Omar Minaya has a good track record for avoiding arbitration having never gone into spring training without having all of his arbitration eligible players signed but […]
