Francis Gets Some Clothes

Not much going on in Mets now so I figured I’d write another Knicks post.

The New York Post featured some scathing reports on the Knicks today following new star guard Steve Francis‘s embarrasing situation yesterday. Francis was apparently short on clothes so he went home to Orlando to get some more. While there he notified the team that he would miss last night’s game because his daughter was sick. After realizing that it wouldn’t be good PR for him to miss a game he decided to catch a flight to meet the team in San Antonio. He missed his flight and ended up catching a charter that got him to the Alamo Dome only an hour before tip off. He also obviously missed the pre-game shoot around.

I can’t imagine why the team would let Francis fly home on a game day just to get more clothes. With the money he’s making he could have bought some new threads somewhere between New York and San Antonio. Or at least he could have gotten his clothes dry cleaned.

Francis has not had a single practice with the team since being acquired last week. That includes an optional practice he opted to skip. How is he supposed to learn the plays, gel with his team mates and keep himself in playing shape if he continues to find ways to miss practice? And skipping the optional practice should tell us something about his work ethic.

By the way, Marc Berman reviews this and other boneheaded moves made by Isiah Thomas during his tenure with the Knicks in today’s Post.
