According to a report in today’s Daily News Mets owner Fred Wilpon is ready to make another official proposal for a new stadium. This is an updated version of the Ebbets Field replica idea Wilpon presented a few years back. There is no retractable roof in this proposal and I’m assuming no retrctable field idea either (I thought that was a pretty cool idea but probably not worth the money).
My problem with the description given in the article is that the new stadium will have less seats than the current stadium. 13,500 less, to be exact. I see this as a setup for some later complaint by the Wilpons about how people aren’t coming out to the park citing lower attendance figures even though he’ll be boasting more sell out at the same time.
