Duane Reade Frustration

Is it just me or are the Duane Reade drugstores around the city getting worse by the day. I used be able to go in there on the way to work and buy a box of 10 packets of oatmeal for work. Can’t do that anymore. Now they only seem to carry the single serving oatmeal in a cup. “Just add water and mix”, they say. “Couldn’t be any simpler.” That’s fine for someone who may only accassionally have oatmeal. But for someone like me who has a morning oatmeal instead of coffe (I never acquired the taste for coffee) this is a total ripoff. The single serving package costs about as much as the box of 10 packets used to cost. No thanks. I’ll just do without the oatmeal and find something else to eat from another store.

Then you have the drink selection. There was a time where you could go into Duane Reade and enjoy a great selection of cold drinks and the fridge was seemingly never empty of any of the drinks they carried. Now when I go into a Duane Reade I can never find what I want because they are either out of stock or just don’t carry that particular item anymore. One store near work doesn’t even carry chocolate milk anymore! How can you be a Duane Reade and not carry chocolate milk?!?! That’s just nuts!!

So is it just me or do you share in my Duane Reade frustration? Share your comments on this issue using the link below.

You need to ge a life. Luckily this is NYC, and there are thousands of competitors. Also, what is that snide remark, “I never acquired a taste for coffee”? As if coffee drinkers are evil. Go back to Kansas or wherever the hell you came from and stop your whining. If you want to say you are a New Yorker, then you need to acclimate yourself to our customs. You need to forget about your previous life in east bumble phuck, where the General Store would stock whatever the hell you wanted. This is New York baby!! Deal with it.

Besides, what adult drinks chocolate milk. You must be one sad site. You should also be fired from your job. A cup of coffee takes about 1 minute, where as your oatmeal probably takes 20 minutes (which also includes consumption time). You need 2 hands to eat oatmeal. That’s downtime, which I am sure you do not deduct form your lunch hour. Morale of the story, he who lives in a glass house, should not throw stones.

I picked on Duane Reade because they have 3 stores that are on my way to work which makes them the most convenient places for me to go. As a New Yorker since birth (and not from Kansas)I appreciate convenince (as most New Yorkers do) and hate it when I go out of my way to get things. Yes, there are a thousand competitors. They are the ones that are getting my business right now. But that doesn’t change my complaints about Duane Reade. The issue still exists and at the time that I wrote that piece I felt the need to vent.

As for my ‘snide remark’ about not acquring the taste for coffe, it wasn’t meant to be snide. There’s nothing wrong with liking and drinking coffe. I have just never liked it. That’s all I was saying. Sometimes a comment is meant to be taken at face value (as that one was) and doesn’t bear further analysis or knee jerk reactions (your comment is an example of the latter).

To address you’re second comment (which was just an extended version of the first) plenty of adults don’t drink coffee. They simply prefer other drinks. Sometimes I drink tea, sometimes hot chocolate, sometimes other things. So what adult drinks chocolate milk? Plenty of them (there’s a reason why it’s always sold out at the Duane Reade that I was complaining about and it’s not because there are so many kids in the store.)

Actually, the oatmeal takes about the same time to make as a cup of coffee and I eat it while I work. It’s called multi tasking. Look into it.

As for my lunch hour, there’s no need to deduct anything form it. In fact, most often I don’t take the whole hour.

So, what glass house are you talking about??

And, by the way, it’s the ‘moral’ of the story, not the ‘morale’ of the story.

By the way it’s – “convenience” not “convenince” and it’s “acquiring” not “acquring” (see Dave’s lame comments on June 16, 2005 at 1:52 PM”

Dude after your last comment, you think you would have run spell check. God you are a douche bag. LMFAO.

It took you 14 months to come up with that? What a let down.
